ÖZET

Medeniyet bir iddia olmaktan öte, yaşanarak gelen fikirlerin yerde ve gökte onay bulmasıdır. İslam’ın kalbi Mekke’yi otel zincirlerine dönüştürmek, sahip olunanın özündeki olanı tanımlar. Müslümanlar için kutsal kabul edilen bir mekân, tarihsel serüveni bir yana, politik nedenlerle hafızasından uzaklaştırılmış durumdadır. Bu yazı Nicolai Ouroussoff ‘un “New Look for Mecca: Gargantuan and Gaudy” isimli eleştirel yazısı üzerinden hayaletlerin gücü ve yaptırımını sorgulamayı amaçlamaktadır.

ABSTRACT

Civilisation is more than a claim; it is the acceptance of ideas that arise from experience of the earth and the sky. Transforming Mecca, the heart of Islam, into hotel chains defines/exemplifies the essence of possession. A place considered sacred by Muslims, beyond its historical significance, has been stripped of its memory for political reasons. This article aims to question the power and authority of ghosts through the critical piece titled “New Look for Mecca: Gargantuan and Gaudy” by Nicolai Ouroussoff.
